Muslim Unity! A Plan For The Next 100 Years.

September 29, 2006

I am amazed by his clear thoughts, ready answers, and defense of his idea of uniting Muslims worldwide! His approach of unity unlike any I have ever questioned, negotiated or debated! He is blunt, sincere, and open minded!

I had the pleasure and honor of meeting with him after Friday prayer in Los Angeles. His approach is simple, "since we worship God, and all submissions are made to him, why then do we fight amongst each other? And do we create partners that we somehow idolize next to Him?" he inquired.

The difference between Shia and Sunni Islam bothers him. He is an Ibrahimi Muslim. He believes in God and His Messengers. All of His Messengers; from Adam, Jonas, Daoud, Abraham, Issac, Isamil, Moses, to Jacob, Jesus, and finalized by Mohammed, peace and blessing be upon all of them.

Sunni and Shia fighting and differences displeases the prophet and anger God, according to him. "It is true, God has created us, and He made us choose, but when it comes to the teaching of Islam, it is mandated upon all of us, people who believe in God (Allah,) the Merciful, the Compassionate, to understand the core message of Islam. The message of peace, humanity, equality, and advancement of the human race. Islam brings the true worship that is worthy of a human being." he said.

I listened to him, and I am awed at his level of understanding and passion of this unity. I wondered to myself if it was possible! Over fourteen-hundred years had passed, people didn't even wait for the prophet to die, and they started fighting among themselves! I asked myself, why would he thinks that he can make any difference?

Islam is a great religion! At least that is what my parent taught me. But, to my narrow understanding, I witness the actions of some of its adherents reflect backwardness, uncivilized approach to modernity, lack of communication and understanding, (but, then again that is the case in all religions!). I thought for a moment, perhaps, he is a dreamer! I looked him up and down as he uttered his words of unity with pleasure, passion, sincerity and forgiveness. He is unfazed with the fighting in Iraq. "it is a phase, and it will pass, it doesn't reflect the genuine intentions of the Iraqi people," he said.

I wanted to explore further. My time with him is limited. He kindly gave me 45 minutes of his time to explore and inquire about his introduction to Muslim unity within the Ibrahimi approach or sect of worshiping God. How is it possible? How can he achieve it? What's his credential? How did he approach it? Why is he bothered with the unity anyway? All these questions came to mind, and I wanted to ask more, and more. I didn't want the time to stop, I wanted to own the time. I wanted to learn. I felt hunger for knowledge! Here is a man that transcended the division of the muslims and he is now telling me, directly to my face and in person that Muslim unity is possible! I asked how? How can't be possible? How did he do it?                  To be continued...
