The Liberation of Kabul - A Heavenly Gift
Tuesday, 11-13-2001
The fall of Kabul today at the hands of the Northern Alliance shocked observers,
and Taliban's supports alike. It is the capital you know! The Taliban vowed
to protect it till the last man. What happened? Why did they change
their minds? Were they just bluffing? What's the wisdom behind
abandoning Kabul? The answers to these questions should be studied carefully
because of the unpredicted events of the future.
First of all, I would like to bring something out in the open, once and for
all. The Taliban should have been ousted from power since the moment
the world was aware of the atrocity that were committed against its population
and the maltreatment of women and minorities. These backward creatures who
roamed Afghanistan since 1996 damaged the image of the great religion of
Islam more than any other wanna be Islamic movement in the last century.
Their interpretation of the religion were wrong; their fall was imminent,
but nobody predicted the fall would be this decisive.
Today they have left Kabul, and perhaps the coming days would be the turning
point of transforming or welcoming Afghanistan into the International community
under a government from all factions within the country.
The answers to the above questions are as follows:
The US (around the o'clock) bombing campaign against the Taliban positions
have weakened their defenses and made them an easier prey to the Northern
Alliance. Did they surrender? NO. And this where the catch is! During the
Soviet occupation the Mujahdeen were in mountains caves and they had no control
over any city or province in Afghanistan, but they had the men power and
the will to fight the enemy. Today's tactical withdrawal from Kabul
is to prepare the ground for a guerilla warfare against the Northern Alliance
and any future establishment not recognized and represented by the Taliban.
Over 28,000 strong and well trained men are still on the loose, the leadership
is still functioning. Al-Qaeda infrastructure have been eradicated, but the
organization has not. Later in the days, Al Qaeda will go underground and
will continue attacking western targets and civilians. No assurances so far
from the Allies or US officials that the war on terrorism has achieved its
goals; perhaps it is too early to come to conclusions. All we hope for is
that the campaign succeed to drive terror from the hearts of ordinary
Afghani people, their lives go back to normal, and their little girls go
back to schools and be educated. Perhaps then, only then, when they grow
up and become mothers, they will teach their children to respect women and
treat them equally as it taught by the holy book, the Quran. The fall of
Kabul today was truly a heavenly gift to these mothers and girls who were
denied their basic human rights.
Congratulations!
