Q ) Mrs. Rabab, would you kindly introduce yourself to our readers?
A) I am Rabab Al-Sadr Sharafaldein, my father is Imam Sadr Aldein Al-Sadr and my brother is Imam Moussa Al-Sadr. I was born in Iran, and spent my childhood there. At the age of 15, I went to Lebanon to visit my brother Imam Moussa and decided to stay there. My husband is Sayed Hussein Sharafaldein, and he is the nephew of the late Imam Abed Al Hussein Sharafaldein. During this period (1960 - 1962), Imam Moussa had started his social work and humane activities in Lebanon, and I am honored to have worked with him. All projects related to women was assigned to me. I finished my Bachelor of Arts and M.A. in Philosophy. Presently, I am the President of Imam Al-Sadr Foundation (Girls Section), the foundation consists of six vocational schools and an orphanage.

Mrs.Rabab Al-Sadr

Q) What's the purpose of the foundation and its goals?
A) Imam Al-Sadr has always emphasized on the the role of women in society. He considered the role of women in society is more than 50%, because she has more to offer. And especially her role in raising healthy and good children. Imam Al-Sadr knew advanced societies are built on the shoulders of women. Therefore, within this scope of this thinking, he founded Al-Sadr Foundation. In this foundation we prepare the girls from an early age to be responsible members of society. During the Lebanese war, there was a need for an orphanage to care for orphans, so, Imam Moussa established a division for the orphans. We received too many orphans because of the war, and presently because of the daily aggression from Israel against Lebanese civilians.
Q) Is there any requirements for students admittance to your schools, and is the foundation for girls only?
A) I am responsible for the girls division of the foundation. There are schools and programs for the boys as well. All needy Lebanese 'Muslims and Christians' are welcomed in our schools. Before the war, we had students from all areas of Lebanon. We welcome the needy students regardless of their religious or social backgrounds.
Q) Al-Sadr Foundation's services, is it limited to Lebanon or you have other branches worldwide?
A) As an active foundation we operate in Lebanon only. Lately we obtained a license as a Non-Profit Organization in USA, and we are pleased with that. USA division of the foundation is to help gather contributions from our community here, part of which will be used in the US to help the poor and needy, and the other part will be sent to Lebanon to help the orphans and the foundation.
Q) Before we move to another part of the interview, would you like to add anything else about Al-Sadr Foundation?
A) Actually, Al-Sadr Foundation was established by Imam Moussa with well planned and sound designed goals. These goals were to help improve the life of the poor and needy, and he had succeeded. The schools today are the most successful schools in Lebanon. We use the latest technology and modern equipments. The schools buildings are beautifully designed to give these deprived students the sense of pride and fulfill their ambitions. We provide our students with an environment that will increase their love for education, orders and the love of others.
