- Israeli and Palestinian commitments under the revised Wye River interim
peace agreement.
Sunday: Israel hands 7 percent of the West Bank to joint Israeli-Palestinian
control. Israel releases first batch of Palestinian security prisoners.
Sept. 10: Start of negotiations for a permanent peace agreement between Israel
and the Palestinians. The two sides also start negotiations on a final phase
of troop withdrawals outlined in 1994 interim agreements. The troop withdrawal
negotiations must be completed within four months.
Oct. 1: Israel opens a land route for Palestinians connecting the Gaza Strip
and the southern West Bank.
Early October: Construction of Gaza sea port begins. Israel opens Palestinian
market in Hebron.
Oct. 8: Second group of prisoners to be released. Palestinians say a total
350 prisoners are to be released in the first two batches.
Nov. 15: Israel hands 3 percent of the West Bank to joint Israeli-Palestinian
control and transfers 2 percent more from joint control to full Palestinian
control.
By the end of November: Israel opens Shuhada Street in Hebron, which runs
along a number of Jewish settler compounds, to Palestinian traffic.
On the eve of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, which begins around Dec.
9: A third group of Palestinian prisoners is released. Israeli and Palestinian
officials will meet to decide on the number.
By the end of December: Israel opens a land route for Palestinians between
Gaza and the northern West Bank.
January 20: Israel transfers 5.1 percent of the West Bank from joint control
to full Palestinian control and another 1 percent from full Israeli control
to full Palestinian control.
February: Israel and the Palestinians complete a framework for a permanent
peace agreement. Israel says this will happen Feb. 15, the Palestinians say
it will occur in February or March.
September 10, 2000: New target date to seal a permanent peace agreement.
